Molly's science

Egg and Vinegar

A few months ago I did a science experiment on an egg and some vinegar. First I put the egg in vinegar then waited for 5 days. On the fifth  day I touched it and it was really squishy. I took it out of the vinegar and I saw all the skin that had peeled off the egg.  I took it to school to show my teacher (Mr Forsyth),  the rest of the skin peeled off and there was just a delicate layer of thin skin covering the squishy egg. If that skin come off there will be nothing but the yoak and white. Mr Forsyth said that it was a reaction with the vinegar which made it lose it’s shell.

Buddy Reading

Buddy reading!!!
Most Fridays we go to buddy reading with room 16! My buddy’s names are Amele and Lily. I love going to buddy reading because I enjoy reading to younger children. I always read them books that are written and illustrated by Bill Pete.

A few of the books I have read to them are Merle the High Flying Squirrel, Jennifer and Josephine and Drufus the Dragon who lost his head. Going to buddy reading also includes helping them with some of their activities like weaving and colouring in pictures. Their Teacher’s names are Mrs Horn and  Mrs Stuart.

Matariki

                            LANTERNS FOR MATARIKI
As part of reading tasks we are making lanterns for the Matariki celebration. Some people bought electric candles from mr forsyth for their lanterns. Some people finished then they went to Miss Neill’s room  to get photos.

We have also been learning how to write a good set of instructions in our writing time.

Now I’m going to tell you to make one.
You will need four pieces of cardboard 15cm long. Then we need to cut a square in the middle of the cardboard. You have to make it as skinny as a skinny ruler.
Then make a design on a piece of paper then stick the design on the cardboard. Then you need to get some hole puncher to make holes. Then get 4 strips of string and tie them together.

Art printing

As part of our solar unit we made printing blocks in class and it was really fun. Some bits were really hard for me , like cutting it out and gluing it onto the thick card board. base. The best part was the Inking! The colours I used for the Inking were: orange, blue and yellow. I made three templates of the sun. We printed most of them on paper and one of them in our art book.

For my first block I just made a design and then pressed hard on it with a pen; it’s the orange one. After that I added extra detail and printed it again. Next I made a second block by drawing design and then cutting it out and gluing it onto a base. I pressed a design onto it as well. Its the blue one. My final block is the yellow one. It has the pieces of my drawing stick on the base and I added only a small bit of detail by pressing hard on it. I like my blue on the best!

Portraits by Amelia

Portraits

In class Mr Forsyth has been drawing the outline of us by shining a projector on the class one at a time. He has been lightly drawing around us with a pencil.

After he had finished drawing the outline of each of us, we had to cover our desks in news paper and put our portrait on them. Mr Forsyth gave each table group a tub of crayons and we started coloring in our portraits. We could use whatever color and whatever pattern we wanted to use.

After we had colored in our portrait we were ready to paint over our coloring. We sat at a table and Mr Forsyth lay out a big black sheet and Stella and I started to paint over our picture in black paint.

After, we put our picture outside and put some stones on it to stop it from blowing away. While it was drying we typed up our biographies on the computer.

When it was dry we cut around the outline of our portrait. Using the tip of a paint brush we started scraping of the black paint into whatever shape we wanted it to be. I chose stars..

5. Type up you’re biography on the computer.
6. Print it out.
7. Stick your biography onto your picture.
8. Get the blunt end of a paint brush and scrape your pattern onto your picture.

Silhouette Art and our writing.

We have done some silhouette art for our room. Here is how we did it.
First I got Mr Forsyth to draw around my shadow.
Then I coloured it in with crayon.
Next I painted over top of the crayon.
After I had written my biography I stuck it on to my silhouette.
I scraped out patons on the silhouette.
Finally I cut it out.

James, Pip and Harold

Hi, my name is James. We have been going to see Harold and Pip on a Thursday. We go in a truck called Life Education Bus. They talk about body parts and the brain. On the last day we did karaoke with Harold. Pip and Harold think their bus can do wheelies!!
